8 February 2025<\/b> The competitions in the 40th anniversary of the Circuito de Jerez-\u00c1ngel Nieto, kicked off today with the \u2018Spanish Winter Championship\u2019 event, the first of this new racing season. <\/p>\n
Spanish Winter Championship is a competition for F4 and Eurocup3 single-seaters to be held over the winter months in four venues, the first one being Jerez, before moving on to Portugal in February and returning to Navarra at the beginning of March, from where they will head to Motorland Arag\u00f3n at the end of the same month, where they will conclude the pre-season testing and races before both championships get underway. <\/p>\n
In addition to the free practice sessions on Friday, the weekend programme includes official practice sessions on Saturday to form the starting grids for the race rounds on both Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n
Therefore, from first thing in the morning, the official practice sessions took place which, in the case of the E4 (Formula 4), were dominated by the Polish driver of the Griffin Core by Campos team, Jan Przyrowski, who set the best time of 1'51.228, followed by the Belgian Thomas Strauven, who set a time of 1'51.622. The Lebanese and the Belgian Ean Eyckmans would take the second row of the grid in that order. In this category, 33 riders took to the track for qualifying, with no Spaniard registered. In the Eurocup3 class, Italian Mattia Colnaghi (MP Motorsport) took pole position with a time of 1'39.505, 0.199 ahead of American James Egozi who was second. Poland's Maciej Gladysz and Bulgaria's Nikola Tsolov followed in that order. The only Spaniard present was Juan Cota from Madrid who achieved the sixth fastest time. <\/p>\n
Subsequently, two races would take place on Saturday for each category. The first race was scheduled for 30 minutes plus one lap, while the second races for each class, called \u2018Sprint Race\u2019, were scheduled for 20 minutes plus one lap. The first E4 (F4) race, with several red flags during its course, was dominated by the Polish driver Jan Przyrowki, author of the pole, who from the start managed to keep his first position and not to be disturbed by anyone. Thomas Strauven was second, while Christophe El Feghali took third place on the podium. <\/p>\n
For his part, Italian Mattia Colnaghi, who took pole position in the morning, achieved a clear victory in the first race for the E3 (Eurocup3) category, with a gap of two seconds over American James Egozi, who was second, with Maciej Gladysz taking third place on the podium. Spanish rider Juan Cota was sixth.<\/p>\n
The first day of the Spanish Winter Championship ended with the Sprint races of E4 (F4) and E3 (Eurocup) where the starting grid was formed by inverting the first ten positions of the qualifying, so that the tenth best time in the official qualifying started on pole position in this Sprint race, while the first one moved to tenth place. In E4 (F4) it was Dutchman Ren\u00e9 Lammers (MP Motorsport) who took the victory followed by American Vivek Kanthan (Campos Racing). British driver Nathan Tye took the third step of the podium. Meanwhile, the Eurocup Sprint race, also with an inverted grid, was won by Peruvian Andres Cardenas (MP Motorsport) followed closely by Spaniard Juan Cota (Drivex) who was second and Emerson Fittipaldi completing the podium. <\/p>\n
Tomorrow, Sunday, fans will be able to enjoy two races which will be held at 11.50 am for the Eurocup 4 (F4) and at 12.45 pm for the Eurocup 3, while from 9 am to 9.50 am, official practice sessions will take place for both categories. <\/p>\n
