April 6, 2025. The first scoring round of the ESBK – Spanish Superbike Championship – came to an end today at the Jerez Ángel Nieto Circuit, with a great atmosphere and over 6,000 spectators enjoying the event. The return of competitions to the Jerez track was accompanied by excellent weather, which helped make the racing spectacle even more thrilling. Today’s races saw victories for Borja Gómez in Superbike, Eric Fernández in Supersport NG, Juan Francisco Risueño in Supersport 300, David Real in the Yamaha R7 Cup, Qabil Irfan in ESBK Talent, and Marcos Vinagre in Moto4.

A great atmosphere among the fans throughout the weekend, and especially today, as they enjoyed live the six thrilling races scheduled, in addition to the Pit Lane Walk, where fans had the chance to get a close-up look at the motorcycles and some of the riders. This experience was warmly received in Jerez and proved to be very positive in both fostering enthusiasm among the public and giving visibility to the teams and their sponsors.

Regarding the races, starting with the premier Superbike class, this was the only one that saw a red flag due to a rider's crash (Christophe Ponsson), so a new race was scheduled, this time with 7 laps. Borja Gómez, Román Ramos, Steven Odendaal, and Ivo Lopes were the main contenders in this new "sprint" race, where the riders' strategies shifted significantly compared to the initial one. The final lap of this "time attack" race was heart-stopping, with four riders battling for the win. Odendaal became a key figure as he tried to pass Gómez in the final "Jorge Lorenzo" corner, but he ran wide, allowing Borja Gómez (Honda) to take the lead and secure the victory. Meanwhile, Ramos (Kawasaki) appeared to take advantage of the South African's mistake to secure a podium finish, but Odendaal managed to slipstream behind the Cantabrian and pass him on the straight before the finish line, claiming third place. Portuguese rider Ivo Lopes (BMW) finished in second. Odendaal ultimately left Jerez leading the championship. In Stock 1000, the victory went to Francisco Javier Palomeras.

The battle for victory in the Supersport NG category was between Eric Fernández (Ducati) and Andalusian rider Daniel Muñoz, until Fernández began to show remarkable consistency at the front in the final laps, leaving Muñoz with no chance to challenge for the win. Muñoz had to settle for second place as Fernández secured his first victory of the season, just as he had ended the previous one at this same venue—by winning the race and bidding farewell to Jerez until November with a double victory, thanks to his win yesterday. Meanwhile, the fight for the third podium spot was intense between Harry Khouri and Marcos Ludeña. Just when it seemed that Khouri would take the third place, a crash at turn 2 cleared the way for Ludeña, who secured third place. In the Superstock 600 class, the winner was Francisco Javier Ruiz.

The morning started early with the first scheduled race at 9 a.m. for the Supersport 300 category, where a group of 5 riders—Risueño, Marín, Ocete, Bernal, and Blázquez—quickly broke away from the rest of the competitors, beginning a battle for the three podium spots. In a very tight finish with position changes throughout, it was ultimately Juan Francisco Risueño who claimed victory, followed by Daniel Ocete in second and Tomás Marín in third, completing the podium.

The new ESBK Talent category saw another head-to-head battle between Malaysian rider Qabil Irfan and Spaniard Izan Rodríguez, who pulled away from the rest of the riders to contest the victory. An exciting final lap decided the positions. Initially, it seemed that Rodríguez had the upper hand over Irfan, but in the last corners, his bike gave him several scares, which Irfan took advantage of to launch his attack and take the lead. Irfan held on to the first position until the checkered flag, securing the win. Izan Rodríguez finished second, while Andalusian rider Andrés García once again claimed third place on the podium.

David Real in the Yamaha R7 Cup had no rival, securing his first double victory of the season. From the start, he set a strong pace that only Raúl Navarrete could follow, though Navarrete couldn't quite keep up with him. Meanwhile, a tight group of four riders, which eventually reduced to two (Hodei Martínez and Paola Ramos), fought for the third spot on the podium. Hodei claimed the third place after drafting past Paola on the finish line. However, shortly after, it was communicated to him that he had lost the third spot due to unsportsmanlike conduct, which was given to Paola Ramos, who officially finished in third place.

Finally, Marcos Vinagre in Moto4 secured another victory, adding to his win from yesterday. He was joined on the podium in Jerez by Jase Dill in second place and Chinese rider Shengbo Sun in third.

The ESBK will return to visit us to close its season with the final scoring round scheduled in Jerez on November 8th and 9th.
