The mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, has announced the winners selected by the jury of the VII Motor Awards Ciudad de Jerez 2024, which went to rider Jorge Martín Almoguera, rider Ana Carrasco Gabarrón, the Real Automóvil Club Jerez, and entrepreneur Jaime Alguersuari Tortajada.
The 2024 MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Martín Almoguera, receives the award for sports, cultural, or business achievements related to the world of motorsport over the past year. Ana Carrasco Gabarrón, the 2018 World Superbike SSP300 Champion and the 2024 Women's Motorcycle World Champion, has received the award for her career related to the world of motorsport. The Real Automóvil Club de Jerez will receive the award for individual or collective contributions to the motorsport world of the city and/or its contribution to the prestige of the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit. Jaime Alguersuari Tortajada has been nominated for the honorary award, which recognizes individuals, groups, or companies that have stood out in promoting and projecting local, national, and international activities related to the motorsport world.
The Mayor of Jerez, on behalf of the jury, has informed the awardees of their selection as laureates of the VI Motor Awards Ciudad de Jerez. The awards are scheduled to be presented on Thursday, April 24, the day before the start of the three-day MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix (April 25, 26, and 27).
In an initial evaluation, the Mayor has congratulated the jury for selecting these awardees, as all of them have a direct connection with the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit and our city. In particular, María José García-Pelayo expressed her satisfaction with the award given to the Real Automóvil Club Jerez for its history and years of involvement in promoting motorsport in Jerez and the province of Cádiz.
Furthermore, both the mayor and the jury have acknowledged the achievements of the award-winning riders: Jorge Martín Almoguera and Ana Carrasco Gabarrón. The mayor wished MotoGP rider Jorge Martín Almoguera a speedy recovery following the recent fracture of his left hand. The mayor also highlighted the accomplishments of rider Ana Carrasco Gabarrón, a competitor who began her career by racing for the title in a field mostly made up of male riders.
Regarding Jaime Alguersuari Tortajada, the jury has recognized his long career as a motorsport athlete, as well as his editorial projects in the communication and promotion of motorsport events.
The Motor Awards Ciudad de Jerez cover four categories: sports, cultural, or business achievements related to the world of motorsport over the past year; the career of individuals or entities associated with motorsport; individual or collective contributions to the motorsport world of the city and/or the contribution to the prestige of the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit; and finally, another category recognizes, in an honorary manner, those individuals, groups, or companies that have stood out in the local, national, and international promotion and projection of various activities related to the world of motorsport.
The members of the jury for the VII Motor Awards Ciudad de Jerez are Mayor María José García-Pelayo; the director of Cirjesa and vice president of the Local Motor Council, Agustín Muñoz; the director of the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit, Cayetano Gómez; members of the Local Council commission José Hermosín, Ildefonso Sánchez, Dolores Rosado, and Juan Antonio Castillo; journalist and author Jesús Benítez; former rider and journalist Jaime Alguersuari; sports journalist Óscar Langa; the founder of Racing Engineering (Spanish motorsport team), Alfonso de Orleans-Borbón; and the president of the Association of Automobile Repairers of the Province of Cádiz (ASORECA), Félix Moreno.
