23rd January 2025. The weather finally took centre stage on the last day of private testing for the WorldSBK teams. The rain that fell during the early hours of the morning disrupted the plans of riders and teams, who in many cases decided not to go out on track today due to the delicate conditions of the asphalt, which also received further rain throughout the morning, so some of the teams, seeing the situation, folded their sails and began to dismantle their pits with their sights set on the Portuguese track of Portimao, the next stop for the WorldSBK teams to carry out tests.
But in these conditions, there were riders who went out to ride and work with these settings on their bikes with a view to the possibility of encountering this weather at some points in the racing season. Official riders like Jonathan Rea, Axel Bassani, Andrea Locatelli, Scott Redding, Garrett Gerloff or Xavi Vierge, went out on track to ride at some point of the day, and in this way took the opportunity to work on elements such as electronics or suspensions for these track conditions. On the other hand, others such as Markus Reiterberger and Sylvain Guintoli, BMW Motorrad team testers, took full advantage of the conditions to ride for the whole day until almost a hundred laps were completed.
Among the fastest riders on the wet track was Northern Ireland's Jonathan Rea (Yamaha) who set the fastest time of the session with a 1'53.058, followed by Spanish Honda rider Xavi Vierge who clocked 1'53.666. Third fastest was Italian Yari Montella with a 1'53.978 followed by compatriot Axel Bassani (Bimota-Kawasaki) with a 1'54.426. Ducati Bonovo rider Scott Redding was fifth with 1'54.893.
